The Mint Room is an established Indian restaurant in Bath. The client wanted to extend the business onto the roof above, creating a rooftop cocktail bar with open views across the city. Raffaello Fair ltd designed the new rooftop terrace and managed its delivery on site.
The key design move was a hanging garden: a wall of whitewashed, rough-sawn timber boards fixed over a new timber frame, fitted with integrated planters, which conceals the existing blank wall and becomes the backdrop to the bar. A sculptural white bar counter, open shelving, artificial lawn and large cantilever parasols complete the space, which works as a relaxed garden by day and, with its lighting and heaters, as an evening cocktail bar.
